HYBRIDS

Hybrid cats are created when 2 wild cats of a different species mate or when a domestic cat is bred with an undomesticated or wild cat breed. Examples of this are Ligers, Bengal cats, and Savannah cats.

The liger is a hybrid offspring of a male lion and a female tiger. The liger has parents in the same genus but of different species. The liger is distinct from the opposite hybrid called the tigon, which is an offspring of a male tiger and female lion.

The Bengal cat is a hybrid cat created from crossing of an Asian leopard cat, with domestic cats, especially the spotted Egyptian Mau.

The Savannah cat is a hybrid between a African serval with a domestic cat.
